Examples of Ponds We Have Constructed
1000 Gallon Wildlife Pond
We were asked by a neighbour to construct a pond to attract wildlife into the garden. So we went about designing the pond to have a pebble beach to allow wildlife to easily enter and leave the pond and provide an area to plant bog plants. The marginal planting shelf extends all around the edge of the pond at the perfect depth and width to allow medium to large plant baskets to be used without being seen above the water. The depth is gradually sloping to around 1 meter will planting shelves for water lily and other submerged aquatics. Finally, the pond is edged with our favourite rustic slate stone which is really hard-wearing and a beautiful mix coloured natural stone which compliments ponds perfectly. We planted the pond with a full range of plants to ensure the water stays naturally clear and healthy. The owner was over the moon when newts were found to have successfully bred in the pond within the first 6 months. 2000 Gallon Ornamental Pond
A local customer wanted his current pond replaced with a larger pond with natural stone water fall. We constructed the pond within 1 week and housed the fish in temporary tanks during works. Rustic slate was used to edge the pond and create and natural stone water fall and rockery. Marginal planting shelves and pebble beach were also included, along with a pressurised UVC filter to ensure the water stays clear and healthy all year round. . 2,000 Gallon Semi Raised Koi Pond
This pond is built over pure chalk and as such has excellent drainage. The pond was excavated to a depth of 1.1 meters and then raised a further 1.1 meters to make the pond safe for children. The walls have been constructed from the reinforced block and faced with a brick to match the surrounding walls and buildings. Edged with a buff stone, the centre of the pond has a waterfall weir giving a perfect wall of water as a feature. This waterfall is illuminated by night and acts as a focal point for the pond.
The fish are a mixture of koi up to 24 inches in length along with a selection of goldfish. The pond has a marginal shelf incorporated along the sides and the back allowing marginal plants to flourish, which adds life a colour to the pond throughout the seasons. The vortex filter, ultraviolet clarifier and air pumps are cleverly concealed at the back of the pond providing perfect water quality for the koi.
The filter drain is connected to the wastewater drains allowing the filters to be cleaned without even getting your hands dirty! This pond has perfect conditions for the numerous koi to flourish with a depth of over 2 meters, yet compact enough to fit into a relatively small garden without dominating it.
1,000 Gallon Ornamental Pond
We renovated an old pond that had seen better days. We enlarged the pond and installed an easy to clean filtration system concealed behind the shrubs and supplying an urn water feature return. Marginal planting shelves were incorporated around the perimeter, and Marginal planting shelves were incorporated around the perimeter, and the pond was edged with blue engineering bricks for the perfect finish and no liner visible. The pond was frequented by a resident heron, so we installed a harmless and discrete electric fence to keep the fish safe.
Converting Flower Beds into an Ornamental Pond
Construction of a Formal Rill Linked to 3,000 Gallon Ornamental Pond
This was an interesting job. Removing tulips and various other plants along with 20 cubic metes of soil allowed us to convert the flower beds into a long canal type pond with waterfall return specified by the client.
The pond has planting shelves and filtered by two canister filters concealed away from the pond. We continued the brickwork to match the existing walls and house and edged it with a timber effect stone. Another pond we now maintain and ensure the fish are in perfect condition.
A 2,000-gallon formal rill was constructed centrally in the clients garden to act as a focal point. It was planted with lilies and fed with a water top-up system that was sourced from the rainwater gathered from the house. A very eco-friendly system indeed!
